You can get plans online for cardboard cookers that easily reach 300 degrees. The most important thing is getting the glass to fit without leaking any air. One way is to put a bead of silicone on the box? then lay plastic wrap on the bead to prevent the glass from sticking. Let the glass set on the bead until it hardens then remove the excess plastic wrap. this way the glass can be removed and it will seal perfectly.

An SOS will reach 275 in winter afternoon without reflectors. With reflectors you should reach 300+. In summer it will? run between about 50 degrees hotter.

It will boil water. Nice thing is you can heat pans all day long and store the hot water in an insulated "cooler" to be used later or for a hot shower when camping. (test? the temp so you don't get burned.

I have a SOS Sport solar oven and I love it. I got it used for a great price. The reflectors had faded so I recovered them with part "A" and part "B" 98% reflective chrome UV stabilized tape. I? coated the interior of the oven with the same high heat flat black paint that I painted all my solar pots & pans with (so they all match as a system, which looks cool). All in all it is a superb cooking & survival tool. Everybody should have one of these!

Thanks for your comment. I had heard of usng BBQ black paint to paint pans black but never? thought of using a black towel. Great idea!

I have a Global Sun Oven which I love! I get temps up to 375* (which means quicker meals) but the only draw back is how many pans you can get into it. I think Im going to get a Sport for my 2nd cooker so I can do an entire meal!? Oh and RE: shiney pans? I simply lie a black cotton towel over any non-black pans and it works just fine. No need to buy black enamel pans! Excellent videos!

Just holler for Bob with a large Australian shepherd named Mandy. But yeah, scoutmasters are good people. We just today bought a starter solar power system (only 55 watts, meant? as a starter or backup system,.but in an emergency, it would be a very welcome 55 watts, I imagine) at Costco for not too obscene a price, and I'm hoping Dad will pay us a visit to help get it installed. 50 years old and I still need my dad's help, LOL.

It sounds like I would have liked? him. I was a scout master for 19 years. I love the outdoors and helping and seeing scouting help boys prepare for life. I look forward to meeting him one day.

My father would have been there with bells on! He passed a few years ago, but he was a Boy Scout? to the end really, he was a Scoutmaster) and would have been a huge supporter of new/old/re-vamped technologies like any/all of these. Thank you in my family's name!
