no Idahoian Loaded Mashed Potatos?? those are a staple in my backpacking diet. also, i always remove anything from its original packaging and put it together with the other items to nearly reduce my trash to haul out of the back country.

Great video. The? cost of freeze dried foods for the trail in monuMENTAL and can easily tip the scales at $30/day. It's nice to see people trying to help out by saving others a few dollars here and there. Well done, sir.

If I have time, I drive close to the spots where a plan a wild camp a day or 2 before and bury a stash of food & booze using? my GPS. Even if we don't make it that far, it's something to head for the next day for a breakfast/dinner brake.

I skip the milk and just go with water. I? also use a little olive oil in place of the butter. Works great...

Unless you are in a colder? environment. Then you will want those carbs at the end of the day, preferably near bed time, to keep warm at night.

Little? advice from a skinny guy.. If you don't want to keep gaining weight, try to manage your calories intake in the opposite way, more in the morning, and less in the evening.

You're right, 20 years ago you had to get Mountain House meals at the backpacking store at about $7.00 each, but now you can go to the grocery store and get a ton of stuff that is "heat and eat" I love the Pasta Sides (and "Rice Sides") you show, re-packed into ziplocs to avoid the weight and waste disposal? of the foil pouches they come in. If you have a food dehydrator you can take almost anything you have at your regular kitchen table--spaghetti, stroganoff, and lasagne are my favorites
