bg, As you mention. I think you have to let the tent flex or it will tear itself apart. i made the mistake of leaving the shelf attached in a storm a little worse than this one and it tore the tent seam, although the fly was intact? and we were high and dry. I anchor it at all the stake points and use all of the tie-down loops, but after that i just let the tent flex as it will.

Awesome video! I wonder how it would have handled if you had tied it down inside with the loops? Maybe would have torn itself apart if it was to stiff instead of folding. In any case it's a hell? of tough tent to withstand being battered like that!

I actually lived on Kodiak Island for 7 years :D My friends told me all about this storm but I didn't see any videos of it.? When I was there I never saw that much rain.

@ScreamPotato @backwoodsBrophil I have had similiar experience as backwoods. It really depends on what type of camping, weather and location: - I weathered a storm? worse this this with fiberglass poles, none of them brokebut they looked like feathers when it was all over. note: Cableas replaced them - The aluminum poles (2) of them had permenant bends after this storm. Replacement poles ar $27 each. Not bad! - Weight: Weight is a big factor me. If weight is not an issue, than fiber is solid!

I just bought the 8 person with fiberglass. I've had the 6 person cabelas XPG expedition with aluminum poles and had issues with the poles developing permanent bends. That said, I also own the cabela's big country with? fiberglass poles, and they don't have that problem and just seem more durable. They're just HEAVY. Of course fiberglass has been said to crack in extreme cold; I've "winter camped" with fiberglass and had no issues so far. That's just my experience and 2 cents..

I'm looking at buying one of these right? now and trying to decide between aluminum or fiberglass poles. We'll only use it 4-5 times a year, but there always seems to be a big Northern roll through when we're on the island and tents end up wrecked. Your video helps a LOT, thank you for posting it. Without being able to see it setup, the "8 man" tent seems a little small. Would it be comfortable for 4 people and gear? Sorry if it's in the audio, can't hear audio right now.

Great video. Can't beat real life experience. Did you get the aluminum poles or the fiberglass? Do you think there is anything you could have done to improve the tent's performance (without? buying a lot of extra stuff)?

I have the 8-man as well. No finer dome can be found. I wish they would review these along side the REI's, Sierra Designs, etc. There? is no comparison.

It breathes very well. The top is well? vented and you have the option of opening several window (doors) for venting. I have a place in Iowa but I have never used the tent there. One great thing about Cabelas is their return policy. If you are uphappy with the product (for any reason) they will take it back. At least they always have.

Just got the? six person AGM for Christmas. Obviously a heavy duty tent, but do you know how well it breathes well in warm weather? I'm a little worried about hot and humid summer camping here in Iowa.

GREAT video! I was wondering? if you made the bear fence or purchased it. If you made it can we have your detailed plans??? Maybe a video on how it's made???
By: cusackla. on 21 Aug 10, 17:17:35
Thanks for the comments. The ropes are actually a? Bear safe Fence, it runs off of a big capacitor and two D Cell Batteries. Keeps the bears off the tent ;-)
